It is 1986 and most people who want to defect go from East to West Germany. When Daniel Fitzgerald does the opposite it affects many people, not least his family and his new wife, Shirley. When she follows him to East Berlin he tells her he does not want her to stay with him. It would be best if they divorce. When she discovers the real reason for him being in East Berlin she finds the situation no easier and feels it is better to try to forget him.
